After Hurricane Irene came though the North East, there was a lot of flooding. In some places, parts of roads were lifted up and they broke apart.

Plants that were in the way of the rain, wind, stuff blowing around, didn’t do well. Any flooding added to the problems. A lot of mud moved around and caused damage to houses as well as other places.

Before Irene, there had been heavy rains and so the ground was saturated with water. It couldn’t absorb any more water and that made the flooding worse.
