I thought we could look at some maps of the Great Lakes. It is the easiest way to see where they are and how large they are.

I looked up lake effect snow and there was a lot of complicated language used to explain  it.  What happens is that cold air goes across the warmer air of the lake and it makes snow than lands on land in a narrow path. The snow is very heavy.
