Over the past weekend, there was a very large burst of energy that came from the sun. One name for this energy is solar flare.  The flare has caused brilliant Northern Lights.

The sun is always sending energy our way. They call it Solar Wind.

The earth has something called a magnetosphere.  To put it simply,  the magnetosphere is a magnetic energy field that surrounds the earth. It isn’t close to the earth, but out a bit in space.

I have two pictures of the solar wind and the earth’s magnetosphere. I think they are from NASA.

Pretty picture of the same thing.
